KU School of Fine Arts announces new Distinguished Alumni Achievement Awards and Distinguished Service Awards

KU Department of Art faculty exhibit works at annual show
The University of Kansas Department of Art faculty will showcase a variety of works at the annual faculty art show, held in the KU Art and Design Gallery.
"KU’s art faculty is a dynamic team of successful artists with national and international exhibition records and awards," said Dawn Marie Guernsey, chair of the Department of Art. "The works displayed in this year’s exhibit will demonstrate the faculty’s diversity, aesthetic depth and technical mastery." Read more.
KU School of Fine Arts Career Services Office presents spring calendar of events
The School of Fine Arts Career Services Office is pleased to announce its spring 2008 career-related events schedule, bringing to campus a variety of accomplished KU fine arts alumni and artists.
"We are really grateful for our alumni and guests who are willing to share their career stories and expertise with current students," said Dina P. Evans, career services coordinator for the School of Fine Arts. "The students are genuinely interested in connecting with alumni who share their same major and university experiences." Read more.
Upcoming events at the Lied Center of Kansas
The Pipes, Drums and Highland Dancers of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and the Band of the Coldstream Guards
Friday, Feb. 15, 7:30 p.m.
Featuring more than 80 performers, this spectacular international event brings together active-duty soldiers of the British and Scottish military to present a diverse program of classic pipe tunes and modern arrangements, rich with history and powerful tradition. Their program will include selections such as "Amazing Grace," "The Star Spangled Banner," "Danny Boy," and the anthems from each branch of the U.S. military.
Takács Quartet with Joyce Yang, piano
Sunday, Feb. 17, 2 p.m.
Exuberant and passionate chamber music at its best! Be sure not to miss the collaboration between this exceptional string ensemble and talented piano virtuoso. Their program will feature works by Bartók, Robert Schumann and Franz Josef Haydn.
Catch-22, Aquila Theatre Company
Friday, Feb. 29, 7:30 p.m.
Get ready for a "major major" event, the first professional theatrical production of Catch-22 to tour the U.S. Dynamic and darkly humorous, Joseph Heller's stage adaptation of his classic novel explores the absurdity of war and its impact on American society. Set during World War II, a maze of inter-related "Catch-22s" develops as the play builds toward a provocative climax you won't want to miss.
