KU’s new School of Music kicks off the year with the 10th annual Collage Concert

CollageThe new KU School of Music is pleased to present the 10th annual Collage Concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2009, in the Lied Center of Kansas. Admission is $15/general admission and $10/students and seniors.

The School of Music Collage Concert is an opportunity for the community to experience the full range of talents of KU music faculty and students. The concert will feature the KU Brass and Percussion Ensemble and Herald Trumpets, Jazz Combo I, the Rock Chalk Singers, KU choral ensembles, the KU Symphony Orchestra, the KU Saxophone Quartet, KU String Quartet, and more, including an exciting finale by the Marching Jayhawks! This year’s event also will include a new feature in the form of research posters presented by the KU music therapy and music education division. Attendees are encouraged to view these poster presentations displayed in the Lied Center lobby before the concert.

violin“The Collage Concert will showcase the many sides of the KU School of Music, and I think the audience will be amazed at the incredible variety of music presented,” said Scott Weiss, Collage Concert coordinator and Director of Bands. “Attendees will be treated to everything from early baroque music performed on period instruments to an original jazz work by KU student Andrew Linn. It will be an exciting evening and a great way to inaugurate the new KU School of Music!”

After the Collage Concert there will be a ticketed fundraising reception in the Seymour Gallery of the Lied Center. Attendees will be invited to join the new KU School of Music Sostenuto Society, a group of friends created to help grow the new KU School of Music. Tickets to the reception are $75 (includes entry into the concert), and proceeds will go to the School of Music Student Opportunity Fund.orch

“Collage is the first opportunity for the new School of Music to celebrate its beginning,” said Interim Dean Alicia Clair. “We invite everyone to join the KU School of Music family in an evening of delightful musical experiences!”
