KU Small Business Development Center wins award
The KU Small Business Development Center (KU SBDC) was awarded the Main Street Award of Excellence in Business Development for Leavenworth by the Kansas Downtown Symposium at Leavenworth’s Riverfront Community Center.
Chandler lecturer honors outstanding students
The School of Business awarded the Robert Herndon Scholarship to three students in honor of their academic achievements. The scholarship was funded by the Anderson Chandler Lectureship fund and awarded in honor of Herndon, who gave the 2009 Chandler Lecture on Dec. 1 at the Lied Center. Herndon, FBI Special Agent in the Kansas City FBI Field Office, asked that funds typically used as compensation to deliver the lecture be given as scholarships to deserving students in the School of Business.
Holiday season inspires School of Business initiatives for sharing
The School of Business has been and still is working hard during the holiday season to fill food pantry shelves for the upcoming months. School of Business student organizations, academic areas and classes are collecting food and other items to donate to local food pantries and charity organizations in Lawrence.
Progressive School of Business educators nominated for HOPE Award
"Seeing the light bulb go on in a student’s head is what I enjoy most about teaching," said Professor Kelly Welch. "When I teach I am totally absorbed in the material and my students," said Professor Mark Haug. These two teaching scenarios got both Haug and Welch nominated for the 2009 HOPE Awards.
Personal Finance class provides journalism student with valuable skills
I decided to take Finance 101: Personal Finance this semester because I needed one more elective before graduating. More importantly, I knew I would personally benefit from what I would learn in this class. As a senior in college about to enter the job market, I will absolutely need to know how to manage my finances.

Alumna awarded generous stipend for dedication to public interest work
Stephanie Hiebert, l’03, was named one of five recipients of the Chicago Bar Foundation Sun-Times Public Interest Law Fellowships. The fellowship comes with up to $50,000 in loan repayment assistance to help Hiebert continue her career in legal aid.
Professor’s patent article cited as an authority in Supreme Court briefs
"Patents and the Regress of Useful Arts," by Andrew W. Torrance, associate professor of law, has been cited as an authority twice in amicus briefs in the landmark patent case Bilski v. Kappos and once in the petition for certiorari for Mayo v. Prometheus.
Fall edition of KU Law Magazine features public interest lawyers
A trio of KU law graduates serving the underserved in public interest jobs headline the fall issue of KU Law Magazine. The issue also features a veteran trial lawyer who now writes crime thrillers and the story of one man’s journey to clemency with the help of a law school clinic.
