This Week In KU History
September 27, 1896: By the end of the autumn of 1896, crimson and blue had become the University’s official athletic colors. Since they happened to be the combined colors of Harvard and Yale, a myth arose that crimson and blue were chosen to assuage the Yale alums among KU’s faculty who had endured a difficult time embracing the hues of their alma mater’s chief rival. Football moves up in the polls

After starting the season ranked 25th in the Associated Press poll and unranked in the USA Today/Coaches Poll, the 4-0 KU football team has moved to 18th in the AP and 16th in the coaches’ listings this week. KU recorded a 35-28 victory against previously unbeaten Southern Mississippi on Sept 26.

The Jayhawks' 44-16 victory over Duke on Sept. 19 also included a special announcement from Kansas Athletics as plans were revealed for the new KU Gridirion Club, an exclusive club-seating addition to the east side of Memorial Stadium. Following an open week on Oct. 3, the Jayhawks return home for their Big 12 Conference opener against Iowa State on Oct. 10, which also is Homecoming weekend. You can return to the Hill with a Homecoming with the 'Hawks ticket package. Click here for details!

Kansas Soccer in the Polls
The 17th-ranked KU soccer team improved to 8-2-1 on the season after beating Oral Roberts University, 5-3, in KU's final non-conference match this fall.

The Jayhawks have been led by junior Rachel Morris and senior Monica Dolinsky. Both Morris and Dolinsky have been named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Women’s Team of the Week, for the week of Sept. 21 and Sept. 7, respectively.

The Jayhawks, who fell to Oklahoma State 3-0 in the Big 12 season opener Sept. 25, will travel Oct. 2 to College Station, Texas, to face No. 12 Texas A&M at 7 p.m.

Other fall sports news and notes
Kansas volleyball (8-4, 1-2 Big 12) returns home Sept. 30 to host Colorado (5-8, 0-4 Big 12) at 6:30 p.m.

Both the Kansas men and women's cross country teams are ranked among the preseason top 10 teams in the Midwest Region, announced by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The women’s basketball team has received a preseason ranking of 22 by Athlon Sports. The women tip off the season on Oct. 16 with the annual Late Night in the Phog practice.

Kansas Athletics has announced the plan for every Jayhawk fan. The All the 'Hawks you can Watch package is $249 and allows fans the opportunity to see every KU home event from Oct. 19-Nov. 19. Those events include two home football games (vs. Oklahoma and Nebraska), two home soccer games (including the Missouri game), four volleyball matches (including Missouri and Kansas State), three women's basketball games and four men's basketball games.

Other unique packages allowing fans the opportunity to buy Oklahoma or Nebraska football tickets include the Ultimate Jayhawk Weekends, Conference Two-Packs , and Blue and Red Clash Pack.
