Distinguished alumni return to campus
Recipients of the College’s Alumni Distinguished Achievement Awards will return to campus April 17 to share how a KU degree helped launch their careers. Recipients include the chair of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, the director of the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, a world-renowned professor of biochemistry and a federal appellate judge.
Associate dean named for new School of the Arts
Elizabeth Kowalchuk will take on an administrative role in KU’s new School of the Arts, which will be housed in the College. Kowalchuk, an associate professor in the visual art education program, has spent nearly three decades teaching art and training art educators.
CLAS ACTS series closes first year with presentations on nutrition, poetry
The final two presentations this year in the CLAS ACTS series offer unforgettable experiences for families and music lovers alike. The public is invited to attend "The Price is Too High: Balancing Children's Nutrition" on April 19 and "Lineage: A Margaret Walker Song Cycle" on May 3.
Mini College registration extended until May 1
Mini College is scheduled for June 1-4, 2009, at the Lawrence campus of the University of Kansas. The program is open to any interested adult, not just KU alumni. The week includes an array of thought-provoking courses, unique extra-curricular activities and a graduation banquet.
CLAS alumni events may be coming to a city near you
The College will hit on the road this spring and summer to meet with alumni and friends across the country. These receptions offer the opportunity to meet with fellow Jayhawks and to catch up on exciting news from the College.

Law professor among trio of KU researchers finding tax lobbying provides 22,000 percent return to firms
Three KU professors—including law professor Stephen Mazza—have found that a one-time tax break allowed several multinational corporations to receive a 22,000 percent return on lobbying expenditures.
Judges impressed by students’ knowledge, agility during moot court finals
Three Kansas Court of Appeals judges named second-year law student Bonnie Boryca best oral advocate following an hour-long final round in KU Law’s 2009 Moot Court Competition. Boryca joined partner Stephanie Lovett and fellow finalists Ryan Schletzbaum and Andrea Morrow in presenting oral arguments on April 7 before Judges Michael B. Buser, Henry W. Green Jr. and Patrick D. McAnany.
