Did you know?
For decades, KU Info has fielded calls on just about every topic imaginable. But one query in particular was asked over and over: How many trees are there on campus? KU Info’s official answer for years was 17,900, but staff admitted this was an outdated number and offered to credit anyone who came up with the actual figure. An undergraduate global information systems class took on the challenge. How many trees do you think provide shade for KU's beautiful campus? Click here to see the results of their study.

Chief Justice’s lecture to be broadcast live

The KU School of Business will broadcast streaming live video of the 2008 J.A. Vickers Sr. and Robert F. Vickers Sr. Lecture, featuring Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts Jr. The public may view live video of the lecture in 120 Budig Hall on the KU campus. The lecture begins at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30.

“We‘re thrilled at the tremendous response to our upcoming lecture with Chief Justice Roberts,” said William L. Fuerst, dean of the School of Business. “We’ve made every effort to ensure that anyone who couldn’t get tickets from the Lied Center can still view this event.”

The overflow viewing room in Budig Hall seats 999, and admission is free. The KU campus opens to public traffic at 5 p.m. Visitors should check signs for special restrictions at lots before parking.

All of the free tickets to the lecture in the Lied Center were given out one hour after becoming available to the public.

Kansas Public Radio will rebroadcast the lecture with Roberts in its entirety at
8 p.m. Sunday, May 4, on 91.5 FM. Video from the lecture will also be posted online after the event on the business school's Web site.

IThe lecture is named for J.A. Vickers, KU School of Business alumnus and founder of Vickers Petroleum Co., and his son, Robert. The lecture series began in 1969 and has brought to KU such distinguished presenters as George H. W. Bush, Yitzhak Rabin, Donald Rumsfeld, Sandra Day O’Connor and Kenneth Starr.

The lecture will be part of a two-day trip to KU for Roberts, during which he will meet with business and law school students and faculty. Both schools played a significant role in bringing Roberts to campus. Roberts will be the first Chief Justice of the United States to visit KU.
