Did you know?
KU’s trip to the 1969 Orange Bowl marked the KU Alumni Association’s first adventure in alumni travel. Nine hundred Jayhawks flew to Miami to cheer KU on Jan. 1 that year. The enthusiastic response prompted the Association to launch the Flying Jayhawks program in March 1970, sending 53 Jayhawks to Hawaii. Although travel to athletics events (including the 2008 Orange Bowl) is now the purview of KU Athletics, the Flying Jayhawks continue to soar worldwide—to 45 destinations in 2008.
