KU announces 2007 summer camp lineup

Students of all ages will make memories on KU’s campus at a variety of summer camps devoted to music, math, basketball, tennis and much more. Academic and athletic camps are listed in alphabetical order with links to Web sites when available. Click here to jump to the athletic listing.

Academic

DUKE UNIVERSITY TALENT IDENTIFICATION PROGRAM
Residential academic program for qualifying gifted students in grades 7-10. June 10-30 and July 8-28. Contact 919-668-9100 for more information.

FRESHMAN SUMMER INSTITUTE
Four-week academic and residential program aimed at newly admitted KU freshmen. Students take five credits of coursework and live in the residence halls. June 17-July13. Kansas residents: $2,500; out-of-state residents: $3,900. Apply online; applications are due by May 1.

JAYHAWK DEBATE INSTITUTE
Two-week policy debate: June 24-July 7, $1,000 overnight or $550 day camper. Three-week extended policy debate: June 17-July 7, $1,300 overnight or $800 day camper. Contact 785-864-9893 or jayhawkdebateinstitue@gmail.com.

KANSAS JOURNALISM INSTITUTE

MATH AND SCIENCE CENTER
The Non-Bridge Summer Institute is for incoming high school freshmen to incoming high school seniors from Douglas, Shawnee and Wyandotte counties. Eligible students are from low-income backgrounds and/or potential first-generation college students who are interested in pursuing careers in math or science fields. June 3-July 12. The Bridge Summer Institute is for incoming college freshmen. Students take six credit hours of coursework and live in the residence halls. June 3-29.

MIDWESTERN MUSIC CAMP
Junior high camp for grades 6-8, June 10-16, $595 overnight ($675 after May 15) or $350 day camper ($400 after May 15). Senior high camp for grades 9-12, June 17-23, $595 overnight ($675 after May 15) or $350 day camper ($400 after May 15). Choral Institute for high school students, June 24-30, $595 overnight ($675 after May 15) or $350 day camper ($400 after May 15). Marching band camp for high school students, July 8-12, $350 overnight ($400 after June 15) or $250 day camper ($300 after June 15). NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM SUMMER WORKSHOPS
Science day camps for ages 8-11. June 18-28, $80. Contact 785-864-4173.

PROJECT DISCOVERY
A one-week residential camp to help teen girls learn about engineering. Grades 9-12. June 10-16 for aerospace engineering, chemical/petroleum engineering and electrical engineering and computer science. July 8-14 for architectural engineering, biomechanical engineering and civil/environmental engineering. $350. Financial aid available. KU SURVIVOR: ENGINEERING OUTBACK
Weeklong, guys-only intensive learning camp. Students can learn about the different engineering disciplines through classes led by KU faculty. Grades 10-12, July 22-27, $500 for housing, meals and laboratory materials. Contact Dawnelle Prince at 785-864-3622 or dsprince@ku.edu.

SCHOOL OF PHARMACY SUMMER CAMP

SERTOMA-SCHIEFELBUSCH COMMUNICATION CAMP
Sessions I and II are for children ages 4-12 with and without communication challenges. Session III is for youth ages 13-17. Session I: 9 a.m.-noon, June 18-22 and 25-29; Session II: 1-4 p.m., June 18-22 and 25-29; Session III: 1-4 p.m., July 9-13. $100 per session for children without communication challenges, $20 for children with communication challenges. UPWARD BOUND SUMMER INSTITUTE
A residential program in which students enroll in classes designed to improve their academic skills and help them prepare for college. Students from Douglas, Shawnee and Wyandotte counties may apply. WRITERS WORKSHOP
Science Fiction Writers Workshop: June 26-July 5, $400. Campbell Conference: July 6-8, $35 for early registrants or $48 for last-minute. Intensive English Institute on the Teaching of Science Fiction: July 9-20. Three credit hours may be earned. Contact James Gunn at 785-864-3380.

JAYHAWK BASEBALL CAMPS

BONNIE HENRICKSON JAYHAWK BASKETBALL CAMP
Elite camp for girls entering grades 10-12 with one year of varsity playing experience: June 14-16, $195 overnight or $150 day camper. Individual camp for girls entering grades 5-12: June 24-27, $310 overnight or $260 day camper. Jayhawk Team Jamboree for junior varsity, varsity and high school AAU teams: June 30, $25 per player, minimum of eight players per team. BILL SELF KANSAS SUMMER BASKETBALL CAMP
Young men ages 8-19: June 10-14 and 17-21, $400 overnight or $305 day camper. Parent/child camp for boys and girls ages 4-7 accompanied by adult 21 and older: June 16-17, $205 per pair.

JAYHAWK CROSS COUNTRY AND TRACK CAMPS
