Twin Beaks: Bronze Jayhawk now nests at Edwards campus

A hefty new bronze Jayhawk now roosts at the Edwards Campus in front of Regnier Hall. The 'Hawk is a gift from R.A, b'67, g'73, and Terry Beach Edwards, c'67; Barbara Darby Edwards, d'69; and Doug, b'71, l'74, and Susan Edwards Miller, d'72, in honor of their parents, Roy, b'42, and Joan Darby Edwards,'42, for whom the Edwards Campus is named.
Sculpted by Elden Tefft, f'49, g'50, the new 600-pound "Academic Jayhawk" is a replica of the original bird Tefft created 50 years ago, which proudly sits in front of Strong Hall at the Lawrence campus. The original "Academic Jayhawk" was a gift to the University by the class of 1956. To cast the new one, Tefft created a mold of the original in 2005.
