It didn't take long for new KU grad Andrew C. Hadle, f'06, to make his mark as an artist. Hadle, who graduated in May, has already earned a coveted award for his work. He'll receive a 2006 Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award Oct. 7 from the International Sculpture Center of Hamilton, N.J.

Hadle is one of 22 award recipients whose work will be exhibited Oct. 7 through Jan. 7 in Hamilton at the Grounds for Sculpture's Fall/Winter Exhibition. His work also will be included in the exhibition's catalogue, featured in the October issue of the International Sculpture Center's award-winning magazine, Sculpture, and posted on the acclaimed Web site, www.sculpture.org. Hadle's work also is on display in downtown Lawrence: "Future Man" was installed last spring on the corner of 9th and Mass.

The International Sculpture Center established the annual Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award program in 1994 to recognize young sculptors and to encourage their continued commitment to the field. It was also designed to draw attention to the sculpture programs of the participating universities, colleges and art schools.

The program's growing publicity resulted in a record number of participating institutions, including more than 140 universities, colleges and art school sculpture programs from six countries and a total of 377 nominated students. A distinguished panel selected 22 winners and 10 honorable mentions.
