Issue 55, September 2006

homecomingMore than 90 years ago, alumni, friends and students met on Mount Oread for a KU football game. The first Homecoming ended with a victory over the Missouri Tigers in front of 9,000 fans, and a University tradition quickly grew. This year's Homecoming celebrates the KU traditions that all alumni share. “Once a Jayhawk, Always a Jayhawk” Homecoming 2006 will feature all of our old favorites including the customary Jayhawk Boulevard parade and football game. This year also marks the start of a new tradition. The Get Downtown Homecoming Concert is a free Friday event that brings together the entire Lawrence community. On Saturday, the Alumni Association will continue its two-year tradition and open the Adams Alumni Center to the public. Alumni and friends can enjoy food, beverages and TVs tuned to other nationally televised games.

Hinrich Collison

After Homecoming, come back to campus Oct. 13-15 for a packed sports weekend. Late Night in the Phog kicks things off on Friday, KU football plays Oklahoma State on Saturday, and a pre-season NBA basketball game at Allen Fieldhouse pits Kirk Hinrich and his Chicago Bulls against Nick Collison and the Seattle Supersonics on Sunday.

KC Jayhawks, we need your help to carry on another KU tradition. Volunteer for KC's premiere event, the Rock Chalk Ball. Join us for an informational meeting Sept. 28 to find out how you can make this year's Ball better than ever!

We hope to see you on campus soon,
