Last month we brought you news of an early morning windstorm that rocked Lawrence and the KU campus. In the ensuing weeks, we learned once again how deeply staff, faculty, students, alumni and friends care about the University as they rallied to clean up, repair and offer financial help in the aftermath. Get a sneak peek into the fall football action at the 2006 Spring Scrimmage. Mark Mangino’s team will take the field at 7 p.m. Friday, April 14, in Memorial Stadium. Prior to the scrimmage, see your favorite former players return to the Jayhawk gridiron for the Alumni Game, which kicks off at 5 p.m. Before the games, stop by our tent on the Hill for free food and beverages (while supplies last) hosted by the KU Alumni Association and Kansas Athletics!

KUMC Beat

The KU Medical Alumni Associations have announced a new program, "White Coat Connection." The program will match alumni with incoming medical students for a mentoring relationship. There are no formal requirements for participating in this program. You simply need to be willing to share your knowledge and experience with a student.

World-renowned alumni participate in Commencement

Three alumni who have created a new field of legal study, transformed the pharmaceutical industry and influenced the political discourse of a nation are the 2006 recipients of the Distinguished Service Citation, KU's highest honor. They are Philip P. Frickey, c'75, Moraga, Calif.; Irving S. Johnson, PhD'53, Sanibel, Fla.; and Robert Milton Worcester, b'55, Maidstone, United Kingdom. Read more.

Docking Gateway beautifies east entrance

The sign is gone and the traffic booth has been leveled at the 13th Street and Oread Avenue intersection. Soon the 16-foot-wide Docking Gateway will greet KU students, faculty and visitors between Smith Hall and the Kansas Union. The landmark will feature a stone tower pylon, encircled by vertical jets of water and a round plaza. Read more.

University programs and schools boast top honors in national polls

KU's education and law schools leaped up in the U.S. News & World Report’s "America's Best Graduate Schools" rankings, the law school by 16 spots and the School of Education by five places to 15th in the nation among public universities.
KU's special education program also kept its No. 1 ranking among public universities, as did the city management and urban policy program. KU also retained its No. 3 ranking for paleontology.
KU has 42 nationally ranked programs, 24 in the top 25 in the nation and 11 in the top 10 among public universities. Read more.
