KU School of Nursing creates online PhD program
Getting a doctorate in nursing has just become more convenient with the development of a new online PhD program at the KU School of Nursing.
“We are very excited about this new way to offer doctoral education in nursing,” said Rita Clifford, n’62, PhD’81, associate dean for student affairs.
“There are many nurses who want to study at the doctoral level but have been unable to do so because of distance from the University,” Clifford said. “Now they will be able to complete the program from their own localities. Also, KU has been a leader in online education in nursing for many years. Now we are able to bring that expertise to the doctoral program.”
Since 1983, the KU School of Nursing has offered comprehensive PhD education, preparing nurses to conduct independent research and scholarly endeavors to add to the science of nursing and to provide leadership to the profession. The new online PhD program includes the type of content and requirements typically found in traditional classroom programs, but it has been updated to meet changing needs of the profession and is delivered online. Both the BSN to PHD and the MS to PHD programs will be offered online and in the classroom, depending on the student’s needs and choices.
PhD graduates can work as faculty members in colleges or universities, conduct independent research and provide leadership to the nursing profession.
