Business School expands its majors and its faculty

The KU School of Business has hired 14 new faculty members in the last year, and for most of them, this is their first semester at KU. So students aren’t the only ones getting acclimated to this new school year.

The new professors (pictured here with the Dean, Associate and Assistant Deans and Area Directors) increased the School’s faculty size from 42 to 56, which represents 33% growth. The boost in faculty numbers was a product of expanding the list of majors at the School. Read More

Former FCC Chairman Michael Powell will speak at the KU School of Business Chandler Lecture

Michael Powell, former Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will present “The Digital Revolution” at the Anderson Chandler Lecture Series, presented by the KU School of Business. The lecture will be September 28 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center. It is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.

During the lecture, Powell, son of former Secretary of State Colin Powell, will talk about future technological changes and how they will impact our society. He will discuss the ways in which technology will influence how people work, play and care for others, as well as affect media, music, telephony and wireless equipment.

Powell was named to the FCC for a Republican seat in 1997 by President Bill Clinton and was appointed FCC Chairman in 2001 by President George W. Bush. He resigned in March 2005.

During his tenure as chairman, Powell encouraged new approaches to get broadband technology out to the public sector. As a result, alternatives such as broadband over power lines, WiFi Hotspots, Cable broadband and DSL were made more available. Business Career Fair available to all KU students of any year or major, September 22, 2005

The 23 rd annual KU School of Business Career Fair will be Thursday from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Kansas Union, Ballroom. This event brings together KU students and potential employers from across the nation. All students, of any year or major, can attend the fair and learn more about career opportunities. The University of Kansas Undergraduate Business Council (UBC) and the Business Career Services Center (BCSC) host the career fair. Read more
