KU Libraries join KUhistory.com
A richly illustrated series of 10 original articles that will explore the treasures of the University Libraries’ collections will be added to the core content of KUhistory.com by early spring 2006. Featured stories will include a focus on Special Collections and archival holdings, as well as the librarians and benefactors who helped to create them.
Underwritten by the KU Libraries, the new series will be a special themed section accessible directly from the KUhistory.com homepage. “This project will showcase many of the collections and materials that make the KU Libraries a distinctive resource for scholars from around the world,” said Stella Bentley, dean of libraries. “Working with KUhistory.com, we are making these resources accessible to a broader audience than ever by telling the stories of how these collections came to be, describing their contents, and demonstrating how they are being used by scholars to advance knowledge in a number of fields.”
KUhistory.com went live in November 2002 with 123 articles. In December 2003, the Web site launched Version 2.0 containing a series of content enhancements and infrastructure improvements, and in December 2004, KUhistory.com added 25 new articles underwritten by the KU Endowment Association, the Historic Mount Oread Fund, and the KU department of student housing. In April 2005, the site will begin unveiling 40 new articles on the history of the KU Medical Center.
