The second annual “KU in the Capitol” event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16 at the State Capitol in Topeka. The purpose is to inform legislators, their staff, and all statehouse visitors about the many positive contributions of the University, especially KU’s outreach efforts and the impact KU has on all Kansans.
Twenty different academic programs and service units participated in the first “KU in the Capitol,” representing all four campuses. More floor space has been reserved for 2005, so a larger number of participants is expected.
“KU in the Capitol” will take place in the rotunda area on the first and second floors, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. According to Paul Carttar, executive vice chancellor for external affairs, “This is an opportunity to promote individual programs and the whole University among an influential audience of policy makers and other state officials, many of whom are KU alumni.”
Each exhibit will be hosted by staff and students who will distribute information and respond to questions from legislators and the public. As the date approaches, more information will be available at KU’s Governmental Relations website: http://www.govrelations.ku.edu/.
