Vice provost, dean to leave their positions

University administrators Marilu Goodyear, vice provost for information services, and Angela Lumpkin, dean of the School of Education, are leaving their respective positions.

Goodyear, who has led KU’s Information Services since 1999, will leave her post in July 2005. She has accepted a yearlong research appointment as a fellow for the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research in Boulder, Colo., a national higher education information technology association. She will return to KU as a faculty member of the top-ranked department of public administration in 2006.

Denise Stephens

Denise Stephens, former head of KU's Anschutz Library and currently acting university librarian at Syracuse University in New York, has been named to succeed Goodyear as vice provost.

Lumpkin, who became the 14th dean for the nationally ranked school in August 2001, stepped down from her position on Oct. 24. She will return to teaching and research in the areas of sports history, sports management and teacher education in physical education.

Fred Rodriguez, associate dean and associate professor of teaching and leadership, was named interim dean during the search for Lumpkin’s permanent replacement.
