Faculty member funds art opportunities for kids
Linda Kemnitzer, a lecturer in design at the University of Kansas, was recently rewarded for her dedicated efforts as coordinator of an arts program at reStart, a Kansas City interfaith ministry for homeless families, when the organization netted a $30,000 Learning in the Arts for Children and Youth from the National Endowment of the Arts. KU design student wins 'Best of Show' at benefit
Shana Rossi, a master's student in textile design at the University of Kansas School of Fine Arts, won Best of Show recently at the Lawrence-Own-Your-Own Art Exhibition and Sale.
The annual exhibition, an art benefit organized by the Lawrence Committee for the Advancement of the Visual Arts and Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center, raises funds for Bert Nash through a show and sale of work by Lawrence and regional artists. Edward Barr, director of the Mulvane Museum of Art in Topeka, served as juror. Read more and photo.
