Student union director Frank Burge remembered

Frank Burge served as director of the KU Memorial Unions for 30 years. During his tenure, he built the institution into one of the largest and finest programs in the nation.

The timing of his passing this summer precluded many in the campus community, particularly students and alumni, from commemorating his service and life. The Memorial Unions will provide another opportunity for such a celebration on Frank's birthday, Sept. 28.

The day's schedule would be as follows:

8 a.m.

Unveiling of banners and posters through the Unions illustrating Frank's accomplishments. In keeping with Frank's generosity, those attending the ceremony will enjoy free cookies, including fortune cookies with the statement "Frank Burge, Union Director Extraordinaire. Forever in our hearts and halls."

11 a.m.

Commemoration Ceremony in Alderson Auditorium. Marlesa Roney, vice provost for student success, will open the ceremony; other will share commentaries describing Frank's life.

Noon

Reception in the Traditions Lounge, featuring a cake cutting with free cake for passers-by.
