KU tunnels exposed

The five miles of steam tunnels that snake under Mount Oread have long been a source of curiosity for students. Maintenance crews are working on replacing sections of the tunnels this summer, opening gaping holes that extend from Mississippi Street behind Dyche Hall and across Jayhawk Boulevard to Spooner Hall.

Earlier this summer, KU officials gave Lawrence television channel 6 a rare tour of the tunnel system. Here is what they found:
