Successful, committed and loyal. Above all else, these
are the characteristics that define distinguished alumni,
and this year's recipients of the business school's
Distinguished Alumni Award exemplify all three to their
fullest. Kent C. McCarthy and M.D. "Mike"
Michaelis accepted the award this year.
The award was established in 1998, and since its inception,
the School of Business has inducted 34 members. The
school's Board of Advisors, along with other alumni,
nominate the candidates.

Business school assists law enforcement with computer
workshop to monitor sex offenders

With the support and coordination of the School of
Business, communities around Kansas will benefit in
years to come. The school, with help from Greg Freix
and Anne Johnson, hosted the two-day Managing Sex Offenders'
Computer Use workshop.
The school offered the use of the computer lab that
the 35 participants, mostly probation and parole officers,
used during the training. Freix, director of Information
Systems, worked with KU Continuing Education and the
Kansas Department of Corrections to organize the workshop,
and Johnson, systems administrator, reconfigured the
lab computers so the required software would be functional.
