As true KU fans will attest, game day at Memorial Stadium
begins with the magnificent Marching Jayhawks, storming
down the stadium steps to the urgent beat of the drum
corps. The KU band's trademark pre-game pageantry has
been revered through the years but, as you'll learn
in this issue, one aspect of the tradition has worn
threadbare: the band uniforms, which date back to the
early 1980s. Feather
the Flock , a campus-community project, aims to
raise $150,000 by March 1, so the band can order new
uniforms by the fall for 300 members.
The
campaign kindles memories for alumni who recall fall
afternoons at the stadium, so we invite you to share
your nostalgia with fellow KU Connection readersand
the Lawrence Journal-World, which is partnering with
the School
of Fine Arts and leading the Feather the Flock project.
Please e-mail
us your favorite Marching Jayhawks moments; if your
anecdote is selected for publication in the next issue
of Connection or the Journal-World, we'll send you a
KU memento with our thanks.
Warmest wishes from the Hill
