Among Fam's friends at the tribute were former coaches Pepper Rogers (left), who led KU from 1967 to 1970 (including the 1968 Orange Bowl team), and Jack Mitchell, who coached the Jayhawks from 1955 to 1966.

Also toasting Fam were his 1948 Orange Bowl teammate Otto Schnellbacher, d'48, and his wife, Jane.

David Jaynes, c'86, was one of three All-America quarterbacks who returned, along with John Hadl, d'68, and Bobby Douglass, '69. Two days later KU beat Missouri, 35-14, in the annual rivalry that is always the biggest day of the year for Coach Fam: "A perfect weekend," he said in the KU locker room, cradling a game ball awarded to him by current coach Mark Mangino and the players.
