Malott and Haworth undergoing $8M facelifts

Anyone who has taken classes in the, shall we say, aging Malott Hall can appreciate the following: Renovations surpassing $8 million are underway at Malott and Haworth halls.

Work in Malott will continue through 2004, costing about $6.6 million. The work includes room improvements and upgrades for data access, electrical and waterline systems, air distribution, heating and cooling, and laboratories. Malott was built in 1954 to house KU's chemistry and pharmacy departments.

Haworth Hall, completed in 1969 to house biological science departments, is seeing improvements to classrooms and seating, media capability upgrades, laboratory facility enhancements, steam tunnel repairs, and waterline and electrical work. These renovations are expected to cost more than $1.6 million.

The upgrades are being funded through tuition enhancement, individual departments and the University, repair and rehabilitation money, and KU's energy performance contract.
