Crimson and Blue spirit to highlight State Fair
A
virtual-reality Jayhawk and a pep rally are among KU's
offerings at this year's Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson
Sept 5-13.
KU's expanded booth in the Meadowlark Building at the
fairgrounds will offer several attractions, including
"Cyber Jay," a computer-animated interactive
Jayhawk. Fairgoers also can get Jayhawk face tattoos,
see a KU video on a big-screen TV and share in giveaway
goodies, including "I'm a Jayhawk" fans, KU
flying discs, football posters, magnets, pencils and
KU football and basketball schedules.
Daily drawings at the booth will feature five Rock
Chalk Jayhawks T-shirts and a Jayhawks on Parade poster.
More than 100 University faculty, staff, and alumni
work in the booth, handing out materials and answering
questions about KU's programs and events
KU's presence at the State Fair will culminate at 2
p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13 , with an expanded KU Pep Rally
at the Farm Bureau Arena. This year the entire 160-member
Jayhawk Marching Band will perform, joined by the KU
Spirit Squad and mascot, KU softball coach Tracy Bunge
as well as six KU Admissions counselors finishing up
the Road Show through western Kansas. Drawings will
be held for two footballs, signed by Coach Mark Mangino,
two basketballs signed by Coach Bill Self, and two Jayhawks
on Parade books. (You must be present at the rally to
win.)
The Kansas State Fair is in Hutchinson, Kan., from
Friday, Sept. 5, to Sun., Sept. 14. This event is attended
by 300,000 people each year.
