Graduate School and International Programs Alumni Receive University's Highest Honor

Dr.Lilana Mayo

Dr. Liliana Mayo, founder of the Centro Ann Sullivan del Peru, and Dr. Vernon Smith, the 2002 Nobel Prize winner in Economics, both received the Distinguished Service Citation award at the annual all-University supper on May 16.

Judge Brian Barker, Q.C.

Judge Brian Barker, Q.C. (MA 1968 Political Science) came to KU on a scholarship in 1966 ready to participate fully in the American university experience. According to the Kansas University Archives, it appears that Barker is not only the first but likely the only non-American student to be elected to a KU student body executive office; he served as student body vice president for the 1967-68 academic year.
