New tuition rates for fall 2003 await Regents' OK

The University of Kansas and other Kansas Regents institutions have proposed increases in tuition for the 2003-04 school year. If approved by the Kansas Board of Regents at its meeting June 25-26, the new rates will go into effect for the fall semester.

About 20 percent of the revenue generated by the 2003-04 enhancement tuition increase — $2.2 million — will be directed toward need-based financial aid for students. Even with the increase, KU expects to remain a best buy in the region and nationally.

KU is proposing the following increase to tuition and required fees per semester beginning in fall 2003; the increase over current tuition appears in parentheses:

  • Kansas resident undergraduates $2,050.25 ($308.50), enrolled in 15 hours;

  • Nonresident undergraduates $5,788.25 (($445), enrolled in 15 hours;

  • Resident graduate students $2,159.60 ($264.70), enrolled in 12 hours;

  • Nonresident graduate students $5,324.60 ($380.50), enrolled in 12 hours;

  • Resident medical students $7,475 ($1,018); and

  • Nonresident medical students $14,740.50 ($1,092.50)

Beginning in 2003-04, students at the KU Edwards Campus in Overland Park also will be assessed a $15 per student credit hour program fee, to enable the campus to broaden its curriculum and program availability to students.
