Remember when KU life seemed to slow down in the summer? Those days are gone. The season now features summer session classes; young campers on the Hill for athletics, music and leadership training; a new athletics director; Coach Mark Mangino's preparations for the 2003 Jayhawk football season; and a historic celebration that will bring national attention to KU and Lawrence.

Chancellor Robert E. Hemenway has called July 20-22 three of the most eventful days in the history of Lawrence and the University of Kansas. The dedication of the Dole Institute of Politics will include former Presidents Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter, 1972 presidential nominee George McGovern, former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Sen. Elizabeth Dole, former Senators Howard and Nancy Kassebaum Baker, NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw and thousands of World War II veterans and their families. We hope you can share in this memorable celebration.

Of course, KU activities also occur in numerous Jayhawk outposts nationwide. For the latest on celebrations in key cities this summer, check out the Alumni Association chapter Web sites for Chicago, New York, St. Louis, Dallas and Kansas City.

Mark your calendars for August 30, and plan to be in Lawrence to kick off the Jayhawk football season vs. Big Ten opponent Northwestern. Bring the whole family, catch up with old friends, and cheer the 'Hawks. To start the season right, click here for a chance to win a pair of season tickets!

And, don't miss the latest news from this month's featured schools: Graduate School and International Programs and Business.

We hope KU is part of your summer plans, and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Warmest wishes from the Hill —
