Treads & Threads scores a fabulous finish

Treads and Threads guests were treated to a sneak peek at the Phillips 66 Racing Team's No. 66 Dodge Intrepid, which sports the distinctive Jayhawk.

KU Med's Cancer Center was the real winner following "Treads & Threads," the hospital's first major fund-raising event Sept. 14 at Kansas Speedway.

More than 1,900 people attended the Saturday night gala, which netted an estimated $300,000-$325,000. The funds, held at the Kansas University Endowment Association, will benefit patients of the Cancer Center and help support its expansion in the coming months. The project will provide additional exam rooms, a larger treatment area and a new breast center.

Part of the entertainment for the event was provided by Kevin Bacon and his brother, Michael. From left are honorary co-chairs Stephen and Susan Miller, musicians Michael and Kevin Bacon, and Irene Cumming, KU Med president and chief executive officer.

Those who attended the event tasted food from 23 of the finest restaurants and caterers in the Kansas City area and listened to the music of Chicago's Bill Pollack Orchestra and The Bacon Brothers Band, featuring movie star Kevin Bacon. Kansas Speedway offered pace car rides around the racetrack.
