Class timetable enters the electronic age
The KU class timetable, with its abstract covers, tiny print
and crinkly newsprint pages, finally has gone the way of computer
punch cards and beanie caps. Alumni can tell their children
that they remember when the timetable was actually printed
on paper.
Starting this month, KU's timetable of classes is offered
exclusively online at www.timetable.ku.edu.
With
the online timetable, students and their faculty advisers
will have the high-tech and high-touch advantage of information
that is updated every 30 minutes, said Cindy Derritt, associate
university registrar. Students and faculty also will be able
to see whether a class has filled or how many spaces remain
open by clicking on the "Open Classes" option. Classes
that have filled will be listed in red.
Other items such as the academic calendar, advising chart,
and codes for academic majors and other abbreviations used
in the timetable are available for viewing online and are
easily printed for quick reference.
"In addition to being able to provide the most up-to-date
timetable information to anyone, anywhere in the world, in
a tight budget milieu the University is saving significant
printing and distribution costs by going online exclusively,"
said Richard C. Morrell, KU registrar.
The online timetable is a step toward online enrollment,
which will begin next spring for the fall 2003 semester.
Advising for spring 2003 enrollment begins Oct. 21.
