Moving boxes, making friends part of back-to-school rites on the Hill

With her father and new computer in tow, Sarah Noulles, Tulsa, Okla., freshman, moved into her Daisy Hill residence hall on Aug. 18.

After students got settled in their new homes, nearly 800 women participated in sorority recruitment; more than 630 pledged.

The traditional parties at each house often ended with members serenading their potential new members, as in these scenes from Sigma Kappa and Gamma Phi Beta on West Campus Road.

Also part of 'Hawk Week festivities was Beach and the Boulevard Night Aug. 20, the one occasion each year when Wescoe Hall's expansive patio lives up to its nickname.
