 Issue 5 June 2002

In each issue of KU Connection we try to deliver stories of people whose accomplishments reflect the strength of KU. This month we profile two winners of KU's highest honor, the Distinguished Service Citation. And we tell the story of WNBA star Lynn Pride, whose determination helped her return to school to complete her degree. The generosity of Dana and Sue Anderson is building a new strength center for 600 varsity athletes, and Sherman Steinzeig will provide medical scholarships to help future doctors develop their skills. Finally, our New Faces on Campus article offers glimpses of new leaders on Mount Oread.

KU people are our business at the Kansas Alumni Association, and your support helps provide resources through which we can tell their stories. For that we thank you. And, as always, we hope you enjoy this June edition of KU Connection.

With warmest wishes from the Hill,
The Kansas Alumni Association

  KU in the Capitol

KU has announced a series of budget cuts to help absorb $7.1 million reduction to its state-funded budget for the new fiscal year. They include laying off staff and eliminating vacant positions, closing or reorganizing units, and initiating a voluntary summer leave-without-pay program.
