Jonathan Ng made a little history this spring when he was elected the next student body president at KU.

He is the first Asian-American to be directly elected student body president and the second Asian-American president in university history. In 1991, Alan Lowden became the first Asian-American president. He rose to the spot from vice-president after Student Senate voted to remove the president.

"Hopefully, it just gives students inspiration and hope that they can do great things regardless of their background or where they're from," Ng told the University Daily Kansan.

Ng succeeds Justin Mills, who was the second African-American student body president at KU.

Ng's campaign platform called for a new Multicultural Resource Center, solutions to transportation problems and a central location for information about the university.

Justin Mills served as KU student body president in 2001-2002.
