KU's
proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2003
Restoration of cuts contained in proposed FY 2003 statutory
budget.
KU faces a potential funding cut next year of $15.44 million,
or 6.3%.
Block grant increase.
The block grant is the state appropriation for general university
operating support. A 4.5% increase in the block grant is requested
to finance utilities, salaries, and general operating support.
Funding the third year of Senate Bill 345.
The 1999 Higher Education Act (Senate Bill 345) committed
the Legislature to a four-year program to enhance faculty
salaries. The FY 2003 request of $13.4 million is the third
year of this funding program.
Funding the Biomedical Research Building initiative.
The Regents have proposed issuing more than $110 million in
revenue bonds for new research facilities. This initiative
positions KU to secure Kansas' fair share of the increase
in federal funds for biomedical research.
